Man Killed in Cameron County Crash on State Highway 48

Cameron County, Texas (October 24, 2022) – A three-car accident in Cameron County has claimed the life of a man on Sunday night, authorities said.

The deadly accident happened at about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, October 23, on State Highway 48.

According to the authorities, a 2005 GMC Sierra was heading eastbound on the outside lanes of State Highway 48 when it collided with a 2003 Ford Ranger that was stopped and facing southbound without its lights on the eastbound lanes of State Highway 48.

The impact of the collision pushed the Ford Ranger into the westbound lanes of State Highway 48, where an oncoming 2007 Chevrolet Malibu also struck it.

The driver of the Ford was ejected upon the impact. He was taken to Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, pedestrian, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
