Homeless Man Killed in Harris County Pedestrian Accident on Highway 249 (West Mount Houston)

Harris County, Texas (April 6, 2023) – A man believed to be homeless died after he was struck by a vehicle while pushing a cart on Thursday morning in northwest Harris County, authorities said.

The deadly crash occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of West Mount Houston, also known as Highway 249.

According to the authorities, the man was pulling a luggage tote behind him in a traffic lane of the highway when he was hit by a Ford Escape SUV.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

Authorities said the SUV driver was unable to see the pedestrian in time to swerve due to the low lighting at the time of day. The driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with the investigators.

Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
