Nicolas Hinojosa Killed in Head-On Collision on State Highway 36 in Somerville

Nicolas Hinojosa ID’d as Victim Killed in Somerville Crash on State Highway 36

Somerville, Texas (June 9, 2023) – The person who died following a head-on crash on Sunday evening in Somerville has been identified as Nicolas Hinojosa,  28, of Taft, according to the Somerville Police Department.

The crash happened just after 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 4, in the 16900 block of State Highway 36.

Police said a gray 2007 Ford F150 pickup truck, driven by 31-year-old Jose Vega Daniel Rodriguez, was traveling southbound on State Highway 36 when the pickup truck crossed the turn lane and collided head-on with a northbound white 2019 GMC pickup truck, driven by Hinojosa.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to remove all occupants involved in the accident.

Hinojosa was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while his passenger, 62-year-old Barry Tisdale of Waller, was transported to St. Joseph in College Station.

Rodriguez was transported to St. Joseph in Bryan in an unknown condition.

The northbound lanes of SH 36 were closed for several hours as the investigation took place.

The crash remains under investigation.
