Nicolas Santana ID’d as Man Killed in Fannin County Crash on State Highway 78 near FM-1396

Fannin County, Texas (January 18, 2023) – The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the man who died following a traffic accident on Monday evening in Fannin County as Nicolas Gamez Santana, 60, of Bonham.

The deadly crash happened at around 6:15 p.m. Monday, January 16, on State Highway 78 near FM-1396.

DPS said Santana was driving a 2021 Kubota Tractor towing southbound on State Highway 78 without displaying any emblems, reflective material, or lighting as required.

Santana slowed down to make a left turn. The driver of a 1998 Peterbilt towing a semi-trailer, William Bailey Isham, 65, of Greenville, did not see the Kubota Tractor and rear-ended the trailer.

After the crash, the Kubota Tractor overturned, ejecting Santana.

Santana died at the scene. Isham was not injured.

DPS is investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
