Officer Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 31 in Smith County

Deputy Hospitalized after Smith County Car Accident on Highway 31

Smith County, Texas (July 24, 2019) – A deputy was injured Saturday evening in a traffic accident in Smith County, authorities said.

The crash happened on Highway 31 Saturday, July 20.

A Smith County deputy was traveling on Highway 31 when he tried to pull over a drunk driver on the road, according to reports.

The deputy was heading eastbound on the roadway and waited for the vehicle to pass him. As the car passed, the deputy turned on his lights and attempted to make a u-turn to follow the driver.

As the deputy attempted to make the turn, he was T-boned by another vehicle.

The officer was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
