Officer Veronica Lozano Critically Injured in San Antonio Pedestrian Accident on I-35 at Loop 1604

San Antonio, Texas (September 18, 2020) – A Von Ormy Police officer was critically injured in a pedestrian accident Friday morning in San Antonio’s Far Southwest Side, deputies said.

The accident happened at about 3:00 a.m., on Interstate 35 South and Loop 1604.

Deputies said Officer Veronica Lozano, 42, was directing traffic due to a stalled semi-truck when a pickup truck hit her patrol car and then struck her as she was standing beside the car.

Lozano sustained head and back injuries and has shattered and broken ribs. She was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.

The pickup driver was taken into custody on suspicion of intoxication.

The crash closed Interstate 35 South.

The crash remains under investigation.
