One Killed in DUI Crash on U.S. 290 in Houston

1 Killed and 1 Injured in Houston Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 290 near Antoine Drive

Houston, Texas (June 25, 2020) – One person was killed, and another was injured early Wednesday morning in a DUI crash in Houston, according to authorities.

The deadly crash happened around 12:30 a.m. June 24, on U.S. 290 near Antoine Drive.

Authorities said a man was driving a Jeep Cherokee northbound at a high rate of speed on the highway. A minor crash between a Nissan and a box truck was blocking a few lanes of the highway.

The man then crashed into both the Nissan and the box truck.

The Nissan driver and her passenger were trapped and had to be extricated.

The Nissan driver was taken to a local hospital where she later died. Her name has not been released. The passenger sustained minor injuries in the crash.

The Jeep driver was taken to a local hospital, but he apparently fled from paramedics before he was admitted.

Officers said alcohol was a factor in the crash, and they recovered a bottle of wine from inside the Jeep.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Houston Police Department’s Hit-and-Run Division at 713-247-4072 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

We pass our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
