Pedro Lopez Jr Killed in Bryan Pedestrian Accident on South Texas Avenue; Jay Griffin III Arrested

Bryan, Texas (October 14, 2021) – One person was killed, and another was injured on Sunday after they were hit by an alleged drunk driver in Bryan, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened just before 2:00 a.m., October 10, in the 4500 block of South Texas Avenue, near the First Watch restaurant.

Police said Jay Griffin III, 42, of Bryan, was driving when he struck Pedro Lopez Jr, 20, of Miami, who was trying to walk across the street.

Griffin also hit a second person.

Lopez was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The other victim was taken to the hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Officers found two open alcohol containers in Griffin’s vehicle, and he allegedly told officers that he had drunk two seltzers around 4:00 p.m.

Griffin was arrested and charged with two counts of intoxication assault. The charges, however, might change now that one of the victims has died. He has since been released from the Brazos County Jail.

The police are investigating the crash.

In Texas, a driver is legally intoxicated after consuming alcohol if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08% or higher. A driver is also considered intoxicated if they don’t have the normal use of their mental or physical faculties by reason of the introduction of alcohol. Alcohol however is not the only intoxicant, as drivers can become intoxicated by ingesting prescription and illegal drugs such as crack, marijuana, and cocaine.

Regardless of what substance caused the driver’s reaction time to become significantly altered, intoxication by any means can cause terrible accidents and injuries.

Innocent victims harmed by drunk drivers are entitled to compensation for their injuries, including but not limited to medical expenses; lost wages; pain and suffering and mental anguish; physical impairment and disability; and most importantly, punitive damages to deter future conduct. If a death occurred because of a drunk driver, you will want a knowledgeable accident lawyer to bring a wrongful death action against the drunk driver.
