Atreyu “Trey” Gowen Killed in Dallas Motorcycle Crash on LBJ TEXpress (Interstate Highway 635)

Dallas, Texas (March 18, 2021) – According to a local news source, a woman has been arrested in connection to the last month’s motorcycle crash that left one person dead and another injured in Dallas.

The deadly crash happened around 8:29 p.m., February 22, in the 3100 block of the LBJ TEXpress (Interstate Highway 635).

According to the report, Rickala Chaffold, 24, was driving a 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLA westbound at a high rate of speed.

Several motorcycles were traveling ahead of Chaffold in the three lanes of the TEXpres.

Chaffold then crashed into two of the motorcycles in the left lane.

One of the motorcyclists, 16-year-old Atreyu “Trey” Gowen of Mesquite, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other motorcyclist, 28-year-old Paul Arnett of Dallas, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Chaffold, a Forney teacher, was arrested on Monday, March 15, and was booked into the Dallas County Jail on a $15,000. She has been charged with manslaughter.

An investigation is underway.

Most motorcycle crashes are caused by negligent drivers who don’t keep a proper lookout or fail to yield the right-of-way. Because motorcyclists are vulnerable, their injuries are usually severe, often suffering from road rash, broken bones, brain injuries, amputations, or spinal cord injuries. In some cases the accident results in death.
