Randall Johnson Killed, Brandon Gilleland and Jordyn Gilleland Injured in Hartley County Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. Highway 385

Hartley County, Texas (August 4, 2021) – According to the DPS, one person was killed and two others were injured Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision in Hartley County.

The fatal crash happened around 3:45 p.m., August 3, on U.S. Highway 385, north of Channing.

DPS said Randall Johnson, 45, Dalhart, was driving a 2018 Kia Optima northbound on the wrong side of the highway when he crashed head-on into a southbound 2015 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by Brandon Gilleland, 35, Schertz.

The Kia came to rest in the westbound ditch facing southbound while the Ram came to rest in the roadway facing northwest.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brandon and his passenger, Jordyn Gilleland, 20, Schertz, were taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with non-incapacitating injuries where they were listed in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
