Ricardo Rodriguez Killed and Maria Gamez Injured in Panola County Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 59 at FM 2517

Panola County, Texas (August 7, 2020) – One person was killed, and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in Panola County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The fatal crash happened just before 2:30 p.m., August 5, at the intersection of U.S. 59 and FM 2517, two miles south of Carthage.

According to a preliminary investigation, Ricardo Rodriguez, 19, of Gary, was driving eastbound on FM 2517 when he failed to stop at the intersection and was hit by a pickup truck that was traveling southbound on U.S. 59.

Both vehicles were damaged in the crash.

Rodriquez was pronounced dead.

The pickup driver, Maria Gamez, 21, of Center, was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
