Robert Crout Killed in Dallam County Car Accident on US 87

Dallam County, Texas (July 19, 2019) – One person was killed and several others were hurt when multiple vehicles collided on Wednesday morning in Dallam County, according to DPS.

The wreck happened at about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, on US 87, approximately six miles south of Texline.

DPS said a 2014 Chevrolet Traverse and a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe were stopped in the northbound lanes of Highway 87 behind a construction equipment when a 2014 Dodge Durango failed to stop in time and crashed into the rear of the Tahoe.

The impact pushed the Tahoe into the back of the Traverse.

The driver of the Tahoe, Robert Crout, 69, of Mustang, was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger in the Tahoe, Kathy Crout, 66, of Mustang, was transported to Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Durango, Melissa Ball, 36, of Hutto, was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo with major injuries.

The driver and passenger in the Traverse, Jason Booth, 44, and Melissa Booth, 41, both of Piedmont, were treated and released at the scene.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
