Robert Jones Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Bauman Road in Houston

Robert Jones ID’d as Postal Worker Killed in Houston Crash on Bauman Road at Julia Street

Houston, Texas (October 4, 2023) – Police have identified the postal worker who died in a Saturday afternoon hit-and-run crash in north Houston as Robert Jones, 29. He was a U.S. Postal Service employee.

The crash happened shortly before 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 30, in the 8100 block of Bauman Road at Julia Street.

Police said Jones was on his normal route on Bauman Road when an SUV attempted to go around his postal truck and another car.

A video of the crash showed Jones attempting to make a left turn onto Julia Street when the SUV clipped his mail truck. The mail spun and flipped over into a ditch.

Jones was ejected and trapped underneath his truck. He was declared dead at the scene.

The suspect’s car, described as a 2011 white Ford Expedition, slowed down before driving off. The suspect,  Jesus Natividad Gutierrez, 43, was charged with failure to stop and render aid and filing a false police report.

His bond was set at $105,000 total for both charges.

The crash remains under investigation.
