Sherry Thompson and Samuel Menefee Hospitalized after Newton County Two-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 62

Newton County, Texas (November 4, 2019) – Two people were injured Friday night in a head-on crash in Newton County, according to the DPS.

The crash happened just before 8:30 p.m. November 1, on Highway 62, near mile marker 434 close to the Orange County line.

DPS said Sherry Thompson, 61, of Buna was driving a 2007 Mitsubishi SUV northbound on the highway when she attempted to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone.

The Mitsubishi then collided head-on with a southbound 2001 Acura car driven by Samuel Menefee, 47, of Buna.

Thompson and Menefee were taken to St. Elizabeth in Beaumont in unknown conditions.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
