Stephen Cortez Killed and Hector M. Acosta Jr. Injured in Odessa Motorcycle Crash on State Loop 338

Odessa, Texas (September 4, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, one person was killed, and another was injured Sunday morning in a motorcycle crash in Odessa.

The deadly accident happened around 2:15 a.m., August 29, in the 3306 block of West State Loop 338.

DPS said John C. Draper, 48, of Odessa, was driving a 2015 Ford F-150 northbound while Stephen Cortez, 50, of Odessa, was riding a 2010 Harley Davidson Super Glide motorcycle. Hector M. Acosta Jr., 47, of Odessa, was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson Road Glide motorcycle, and Edward D. Chandler, 31, of Seagraves, was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson custom motorcycle.

Draper failed to control his speed and struck the three motorcycles.

Cortez was taken to Medical Center Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Acosta was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries.

Draper and Chandler were uninjured in the crash.

The authorities are investigating the crash.
