Corsicana, Texas (March 16, 2023) – The man who died in a multi-vehicle crash Monday afternoon north of Corsicana has been identified as Van Michael Wallace, 72, of Corsicana.

The deadly crash happened in the 3500 block of Business Interstate 45, just north of Corsicana, on Monday, March 13.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Wallace was driving a Chevrolet pickup southbound on Business Interstate 45 and stopped to make a left turn into a private drive when Marvin David Hernandez, 18, of Rice, failed to control his speed and rear-ended Wallace Wallace’s pickup.

Due to the impact, Wallace’s pickup veered into the northbound lanes of BI-45 and was hit by a Ford F-450 pickup hauling a trailer and a Chevrolet Malibu. A Dodge Grand Caravan was also heading northbound on BI-45 and was struck by debris from the crash.

Wallace was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ana Maria Bustamante, 61, and Joaquin Bustamante, 65, both of Rice, were transported to Baylor University Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries.

Further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
