Woman Killed in Willis 11-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 45 near FM 1097

Willis, Texas (January 11, 2021) – A Willis woman was killed in an 11-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Willis, according to authorities.

The crash was reported around 2:00 a.m., January 9, on Interstate 45, south of FM 1097.

Authorities said a vehicle veered off the northbound lanes of the freeway, struck a guardrail, and tore it completely down. That vehicle came to a stop in the left lane of the freeway. A man and a woman got out of the vehicle and were standing on the inside shoulder when a white Nissan Rogue crashed into the vehicle.

The Nissan was then rear-ended by a silver Sonata.

A white Lexus which was traveling northbound in the left lane took an evasive action to avoid the crash, went to the left shoulder, and struck a female passenger from the Nissan.

The force of the impact threw the victim over the center divider into the southbound lane. The woman was killed in the crash. Her name has not been released.

A passing semi-truck hit the crash debris and ruptured a fuel line.

A blue Honda Accord then stuck one of the disabled vehicles.

Another vehicle hit the debris and punctured a right-front tire.

A Toyota Tundra also hit debris and punctured a radiator.

Two people were taken to local hospitals as a precaution.

The crash remains under investigation.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws, or statutes which were violated.
