Yvonne Arias Killed in San Antonio Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Roosevelt Avenue near Mission Road; Israel Lee Lopez Arrested

San Antonio, Texas (April 11, 2020) – The woman who was killed Thursday night in a hit-and-run accident in San Antonio’s South Side near Mission San Jose has been identified as Yvonne Arias, 25, according to the police.

The deadly accident happened around 11:00 p.m. April 2, in the 3200 block of Roosevelt Avenue near Mission Road.

According to the police, Israel Lee Lopez, 31, was driving his mother’s gray 2005 Dodge pickup when he hit Yvonne Arias, 25, who was crossing the street.

Lopez fled the scene after the accident. 

Arias was taken to Brooke Army Medical Center, where she later died.

Officers found a hood ornament for a Dodge and silver plastic at the scene.

Lopez’s mother called police the next day and told them that her son admitted to her that he had hit someone the night before. Lopez left before the police arrived.

Lopez and her mother came to the police five days later. Lopez said he thought he had hit a dog, got scared, and kept driving. Lopez claimed he lost his glasses and could not see while driving.

Lopez was arrested and is facing a charge of failure to stop and render aid, resulting in death.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
