Zachary Jackson Killed in Houston Hit-and-Run Accident on Eastex Freeway near Gaston Street

Harris County, Texas (January 14, 2020) – A man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday morning in northeast Houston, according to the deputies.

The deadly accident happened around 2:45 a.m. January 12, on an Eastex Freeway feeder road near Gaston Street.

Deputies said Zachary Jackson, 38, was driving southbound when he stopped the car in the right lane to fix a wobbly tire.

Jackson got out of the vehicle to change the tire, and Jeanette Bazar stood behind him to provide light from her cellphone.

Bazar saw a silver SUV drifting toward them in the adjacent lane, and the mirror of the SUV clipped her shoulder. The SUV then hit Jackson.

Jackson was declared dead at the scene. He was a tattoo artist.

Bazar was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The vehicle, only described as a 4-door silver SUV, fled the scene.

The authorities are looking for the suspect.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to the HCSO’s Vehicular Crime Division or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-8477.
