1 Killed, 1 Injured in 2-Vehicle Crash on U.S. 183 in Austin

Civilian Driver Killed, APD Officer Injured in Austin Crash on U.S. 183 near Anderson Mill Road

Austin, Texas (July 1, 2023) – A civilian driver was killed and an Austin police officer was injured in a traffic collision on Friday afternoon in northwest Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, emergency personnel responded to the rollover crash that took place in the 13000 N. U.S .183 northbound, in front of the Fairfield Inn and Suites Hotel near Anderson Mill Road.

The Austin Police Department determined the collision involved an on-duty officer in a marked police unit. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the crash.

Medical personnel administered CPR on the civilian driver who suffered serious injuries. Sadly, the driver later succumbed to their injuries at around 5:23 p.m. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The APD Officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit and APD’s Internal Affairs Unit are investigating the cause of the crash.

All lanes of U.S. 183 northbound at Oak Knoll Drive were closed following the crash.
