11-Year-Old Killed and Angeles Vicente-Hernandez Injured in Hopkins County Two-Vehicle Crash on IH-30
Hopkins County, Texas (September 19, 2021) – An 11-year-old boy was killed, and two other people were seriously injured Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Hopkins County, according to the DPS.
The fatal crash happened around 7:45 a.m., September 17, on the south service road of IH 30, about six miles west of Sulphur Springs.
DPS said a 2015 Ford F750 garbage collection truck was stopped in the eastbound lane with its flashing caution lights activated. A 2007 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on the service road when it failed to control its speed and rear-ended the Ford.
The Toyota driver, Angeles Vicente-Hernandez, 34, of Sulphur Springs, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
An 11-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released. Another juvenile passenger in the Toyota, a female, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Ford driver, Lewis Vickers, 70, of Mt. Vernon was uninjured in the crash.
The DPS is investigating the crash.
