2 Killed and 5 Injured in Hidalgo County Crash on U.S 83 near FM 2221
Hidalgo County, Texas (March 14, 2019) – Two people were killed and five other people were injured Wednesday morning in a traffic crash in Hidalgo County, according to Texas Department of Public  Safety.
The horrific accident happened at an unspecified time Wednesday, March 13 on U.S. 83, just west of FM 2221.
The DPS said a Ford Expedition was heading eastbound on the expressway when officers tried to stop the vehicle and drifted into the center grass. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and hit a white Nissan passenger car that was heading westbound.
Two occupants of the Nissan died in the accident. Their names have not been released pending identification of family.
Most of the occupants of the Ford Expedition were ejected upon the impact. A total of five people were taken to a nearby hospital with unspecified injuries.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
