Bicyclist Dies after Being Struck by Vehicle on Scottcrest Drive in Houston

Bicyclist Dies Two Days after Houston Crash on Scottcrest Drive

Houston, Texas (October 17, 2023) – The bicyclist who was critically injured following a traffic accident on Saturday evening in Houston has succumbed to his injuries, Houston police said.

The deadly crash happened at around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, October 14, in the 5900 block of Scottcrest Drive and the 3900 block of Old Spanish Trail.

According to the Houston police, the 62-year-old man was riding his bicycle eastbound in the 3900 block of Old Spanish Trail when he failed to stop for a red light at the intersection and was hit by a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was heading northbound on Scottcrest.

The bicyclist was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was declared dead on Monday, October 16.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as John Washington, 66, stopped at the scene and cooperated with police.  He was found intoxicated at the time of the accident and was booked into the Harris County Jail.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
