2 Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on LBJ Freeway in Mesquite

Two Killed in Mesquite Two-Vehicle Crash on LBJ Freeway near Oates Drive

Mesquite, Texas (March 13, 2022) – Two people were killed Sunday morning in a wrong-way crash in Mesquite, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 5:45 a.m., on LBJ Freeway near Oates Drive.

Police said they received a call around 5:30 a.m., about a wrong-way driver, and they spotted the vehicle heading southbound in the northbound lanes and tried to get the driver’s attention. 

About 15 minutes later, the officers saw the vehicle had crashed head-on into another vehicle and caught fire.

The wrong-way driver and the other driver were killed in the crash. Their identities have not been released.

The northbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours after the crash. Some of the southbound lanes were also closed.

The crash remains under investigation.
