Two Women Killed in San Antonio Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash at NW Loop 410 and Fredricksburg Road; Derek Reyes Arrested

San Antonio, Texas (January 18, 2022) – Two people were killed, and four others were injured Monday evening in a crash in San Antonio’s Northwest Side, according to the police.

The fatal crash happened around 6:44 p.m., January 17, in the area of NW Loop 410 Access Road and Fredricksburg Road.

Police said a sedan was stopped at a red light on the access road when it was rear-ended by a westbound sedan driven by Derek Reyes, 27.

The force of the impact caused one of the vehicles to hit a pedestrian who was standing near the crosswalk. The victim, a woman in her 30s or 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front passenger in the car that was struck by Reyes, a 42-year-old woman, was taken to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Two other people in the car that was hit, a 21-year-old female driver and a 23-year-old man who was riding in a rear seat, were taken to University Hospital in stable condition. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Reyes and his passenger were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Reyes showed signs of intoxication at the scene and was arrested. He has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter. He was being held on $200,000 bail.

The road was closed for several hours.

The police are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
