Ector County, Texas – Three people, including a child, were injured on Saturday in a head-on collision in Ector County, according to the DPS.

The crash happened on February 3, in the area of FM 2020 and Redondo.

DPS said a Chevrolet truck failed to yield the right of way, tried to make a left turn from FM 2020 onto Redondo, and collided head-on with a Kia SUV.

The Chevrolet driver, Randall Dewayne Grooms, 58, of Odessa, along with the occupants of the Kia, a 26-year-old man, a 27-year-old woman, and a nine-year-old child, were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Grooms admitted to having a couple of alcoholic beverages before getting into his vehicle. He failed a field sobriety test. He was arrested and charged with Intoxication Assault with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury. He was taken to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center and has since been released on a $40,000 bond.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
