Jesus Garcia Jr., Killed in Carson County Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 40

Carson County, Texas (January 28, 2022) – A man was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Carson County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash occurred around 9:40 a.m., January 26, on Interstate 40, about two miles west of Conway.

DPS said a 2019 Freightliner Truck tractor/semi-trailer was traveling eastbound on the interstate while a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was traveling westbound.

The Dodge was traveling at an unsafe speed for the snowy road conditions when it lost control, slid sideways off of the interstate,, and entered the center median. It continued sliding sideways across the median, onto the eastbound lanes, and directly into the path of the semi-truck.

The semi-truck driver, Eldred Page, 37, of Northport, Alabama, attempted to avoid hitting the Dodge by applying emergency braking but was too close to take any effective evasive action, and the semi-truck hit the right side of the Dodge.

The Dodge spun around after the collision and came to rest upright against a guardrail on the southbound edge of the roadway, facing eastbound. The semi-truck traveled into the center median, collided with the cable fence barrier, and came to final rest, also facing eastbound.

The Dodge driver, Jesus Garcia Jr., 66, of Shamrock, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Page was uninjured in the crash.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The road conditions were lightly snow-packed at the time of the crash.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
