Five Deputies Injured in Montgomery County Car Crash on Eastex Freeway near East River Road

Montgomery County, Texas (February 27, 2021) – Five Montgomery County deputy constables were injured early Saturday morning in a DUI crash in Montgomery County, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 1:15 a.m. on the Eastex Freeway near East River Road.

Authorities said the deputies had stopped a vehicle, and one of the constables was conducting a search underneath the engine compartment of the vehicle.

A Tesla driven by an intoxicated driver then rear-ended a cruiser, causing a chain-reaction crash.

The driver of the vehicle that had been stopped was standing on the shoulder of the road at the time of the crash and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Two of the patrol cars were totaled, and three others were damaged in the crash.

The five deputies were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A K9 officer was checked out at the scene by a veterinarian.

The Tesla driver was arrested and taken into custody on a DWI charge.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
