Danica Maclin Killed in Smith County Two-Vehicle Crash on State Highway 155

Smith County, Texas (October 5, 2023) – One person was killed Sunday night in a two-vehicle crash in Smith County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 9:05 p.m., October 1, on State Highway 155 South, 5 miles south of FM 2661.

DPS said a 2024 Freightliner Truck Tractor towing a 2013 Polar Semi-Trailer was traveling northbound on the highway while a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse was traveling southbound.

The Mitsubishi lost control, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the Freightliner.

The Mitsubishi driver, Danica L. Maclin, 36, of Frankston, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Freightliner driver, Leonard G. Ireri, 49, of Houston, was uninjured in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The weather condition was clear and the road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

The troopers are investigating the crash.
