Alan Caro and Anselmo Garza Killed, Alexander Ortega and Nicolas Nunez Injured in Ellis County Three-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 45

Ellis County, Texas (March 31, 2022) – Two people were killed, and two others were injured Thursday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash in Ellis County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 12:26 p.m. on March 24, on Interstate 45, about 2.1 miles south of Alma.

DPS said a white 2007 GMC box truck was traveling southbound in the inside lane of the interstate while a 1999 Ford F-350 was traveling northbound in the outside lane. A red 2013 Peterbilt truck tractor towing a 2015 Direct flatbed semi-trailer was traveling northbound in the inside lane.

The box truck failed to maintain a single lane, crossed over the protected center median, drove across the northbound lanes, and hit the F-350 on the back left side. The box truck then overcorrected to the right and rolled onto its right side. It slid into the inside lane, where the Peterbilt truck tractor struck the top of the box truck and the cab.

The box truck driver, 37-year-old Alan Caro, of Dallas, and passenger, 35-year-old Anselmo Garza, of Carrollton, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Peterbilt driver, Alexander Ortega, 49, of Houston, was taken to Baylor, Scott & White Hospital in Dallas with non-incapacitating injuries.

The Ford driver, 48-year-old Nicolas Nunez of Corsicana, was treated and released at the scene.

The authorities are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, 18-wheeler, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation
