Alexander Ortiz Killed in El Paso Two-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10; Martin Medina Arrested

El Paso, Texas – One person was killed and another was arrested early Saturday morning in a DWI crash in El Paso, according to officials.

The fatal crash happened around 2:55 a.m., December 16, on I-10 East near Executive

Officials said the interstate had been closed due to a separate deadly collision at I-10 East MM 18, causing a semi-truck to park on the right emergency lane of I-10 East.

Martin Medina, 31, of Chaparral, was driving a 2017 Nissan Versa when she veered to the right and collided with the left rear corner of the semi-trailer.

The force of the impact caused the right side and roof of the Nissan Versa to detach.

A passenger in the Versa, 31-year-old Alexander Ortiz, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was killed in the crash.

Medina was determined to be intoxicated and was charged with intoxication manslaughter and booked into jail on a $100,000 bond and a $10,000 personal reconnaissance bond.

The semi-truck driver was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

There are many different reasons why automobile, pedestrian, 18-wheeler, bicycle, and motorcycle accidents occur, including driver negligence, driver inattention, texting and driving, speeding, fatigue, failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign, or private drive, running a red light, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While the factors listed above are the main causes of most accidents, there may also be other factors involved, which is why it’s important that an investigation be conducted before evidence disappears, especially in cases involving a fatality.  At Joel A. Gordon & Associates, we will act quickly to secure accident scene photos, interview witnesses, obtain police records, and secure other valuable evidence needed to win your case.  Call now for a free consultation.
