Antonio Martinez Killed in San Antonio Two-Vehicle Crash on Rigsby Avenue at Covington Road

San Antonio, Texas (April 8, 2021) – A man was killed, and three other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on March 31 in San Antonio, according to police.

The fatal crash happened in the area of Rigsby Avenue and Covington Road.

Police said Daniel Telles was driving westbound on Rigsby Avenue at a high rate of speed and was passing multiple vehicles and gaining distance on an unknown Chrysler that was also speeding.

Telles passed Covington Road and collided with a Chevrolet that was turning eastbound onto Rigsby Avenue.

The Chevrolet driver, Antonio Martinez, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Telles’ passenger, Selena Hernandez, and a third passenger exited the Dodge and left Hernandez’s daughter, 2-year-old Mariah, in the burning vehicle.

Bystanders pulled Mariah out of the vehicle. She was taken to University Hospital with multiple spinal and lumbar fractures. She is currently on oxygen and partially paralyzed on the left side of her body.

Hernandez sustained multiple broken ribs, a lumbar fracture, and a laceration to her right knee. The third passenger sustained multiple broken ribs.

Hernandez has been charged with Endangering a Child. Telles has been charged with manslaughter.

An investigation is underway.
