Arika Smith Killed in Head-On Crash on US 54 near Stratford

34-Year-Old Arika Smith Killed in Sherman County Three-Vehicle Crash on US 54

Sherman County, Texas (March 16, 2020) – Two people were killed, and one person was injured in a head-on collision Sunday evening near Stratford, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:20 p.m. on March 15, on US 54.

DPS said a Ford Fusion driven by Arika Smith, 34, of Guymon was traveling southbound on the highway behind a semi-truck while Diane Wagner,55, of Wisconsin, was driving a Kia Optima northbound.

Smith attempted to pass the semi-truck and crashed head-on into the Optima.

The impact caused the Ford to go airborne and hit the semi-truck.

Smith and Diane were declared dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Optima, 57-year-old Gregory Wagner of Wisconsin, was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
