Artie Carlton Willett Killed in Montague County Semi-Truck Crash on FM 1816 at U.S. 82

Montague County, Texas (April 3, 2021) – Two people were killed Thursday afternoon in a rollover crash in Montague County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on April 1, at the intersection of FM 1816 and U.S. 82.

DPS said Artie Carlton Willett, 40, of Bowie, was driving a 1992 Buick northbound on FM 1816 approaching U.S. 82 while a semi-truck towing a trailer was traveling eastbound on U.S. 82.

Willett was unable to stop at the intersection and drove into the path of the semi-truck. The semi-truck driver was unable to perform an evasive maneuver and hit the Buick.

The force of the impact caused both vehicles to roll over, and they both came to rest in the northbound ditch along U.S. 82.

Willett and his passenger, Kenneth Wayne Killian, 40, of Nocona, were pronounced dead at the scene.

GoFundMe accounts have been set up to help with funeral expenses.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
