Arturo Duran-Ortiz Killed, Tomas Lopez and Elva Duran-Valdez Seriously Injured in Moore County Two-Vehicle Crash on FM 281

Moore County, Texas (July 20, 2022) – One person was killed, and two others were injured Monday afternoon in a head-on collision in Moore County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened on July 18, on FM 281, about six miles west of Etter.

DPS said a 2012 Kia Sorento SUV driven by Tomas Lopez, 22, of Cactus, was traveling eastbound on the highway while a 2018 Toyota CHR SUV driven by Elva Duran-Valdez, 41, of Dumas, was traveling westbound.

Lopez moved over into the westbound lane to pass another vehicle and collided head-on with the Toyota CHR SUV.

A passenger in the Toyota CHR SUV, Arturo Duran-Ortiz, 42, of Dumas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lopez and Duran-Valdez were taken to Amarillo Northwest Texas Hospital with serious injuries.

The drivers were wearing their seatbelts while the passenger was not.

The Texas Highway Patrol Troopers are investigating the crash.
