Arturo Velez Garcia Killed in San Antonio Hit-and-Run Crash on Interstate 35 near Rittiman Road

San Antonio, Texas (November 20, 2019) – The man who was hit by a vehicle earlier this month as he was helping a woman with a blown-out tire on a San Antonio freeway has died, according to the police.

The accident took place just before midnight on Friday, November 1, on I-35 near Rittiman Road.

Police said Arturo Velez Garcia, 46, stopped his 18-wheeler to help a woman in a disabled Nissan sedan on I-35 North. The sedan had a tire blow out on the highway.

A white Chevrolet SUV struck Garcia and the woman.

The Chevrolet fled the scene.

Garcia was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition where he died on November 11.

The woman was taken to Northeast Baptist Hospital with injuries to her lower body.

Investigators said the Chevrolet is believed to be a white 2016 Traverse with damage to the passenger side.
