Ashley Bass Seriously Injured in Waco Pedestrian Accident near Arroyo Road and Live Oak Avenue; Oscar Valentin Lopez Wanted

Waco, Texas (September 2, 2020) – A woman was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash Saturday night in Waco, according to police.

The accident happened around midnight, August 29, near Arroyo Road and Live Oak Avenue.

Waco police said an officer was patrolling the area when they spotted a Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling at a high rate of speed on North Valley Mills Drive. The officer attempted to pull the driver over near the intersection of Wooded Acres and Cobbs drives, but the driver sped away.

The officer canceled the pursuit in less than a minute after the suspect turned his lights off and headed into a residential neighborhood.

The officer found the suspect’s truck near Arroyo Road and Live Oak Avenue after it had veered off the roadway across a grassy area and struck Ashley Bass, who was on her way to visit a friend in the neighborhood.

Bass was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the truck fled the scene on foot. He has been identified as 18-year-old Oscar Valentin Lopez and the authorities are looking for him. He is wanted for Aggravated Assault, Failure to Stop and Render Aid and Evading in a Motor Vehicle. He was also suspected to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash.

A passenger in the truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

We wish Ashley Bass a quick recovery.

“When a person has suffered a grave personal injury in an accident due to someone else’s negligence, the most overwhelming emotion they feel is a sense of injustice. They often ask how such a life-altering event could have happened to them,” attorney Joel A. Gordon said. “The next question usually is, who can help me?” Mr. Gordon added.

A legal advocate can represent an injury victim or the family of a deceased victim. The attorney will file a claim on behalf of the victim and will have the responsibility of citing existing codes, laws or statues which were violated.
