Ashley Ray and Meagan Shumaker Hospitalized After Lufkin Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 103 near  FM 2021

Lufkin, Texas (August 21, 2020) – Two women were injured in a three-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Lufkin, according to DPS.

The crash happened around 1:40 p.m., August 20, on State Highway 103, just west of FM 2021.

DPS said Ashley Ray, 30, of Lufkin, was driving a 2017 Dodge SUV westbound and was preparing to turn left when a 2008 Kia passenger car driven by Meagan Shumaker, 28, of Huntington, failed to control speed and rear-ended the Dodge.

The Kia then traveled into the eastbound lane and was hit by an eastbound 2007 Peterbilt dump truck driven by Arthur Athey Jr., 61, of Huntington.

Ray was taken to CHI. St. Luke’s Health-Memorial for treatment while Shumaker was taken to Woodland Heights Medical Center.

Athey was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

We hope Ashley Ray and Meagan Shumaker  recover quickly.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
