Ballinger Teen Killed, Amy Rodriguez Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on U.S 83 in Runnels County

16-Year-Old Ballinger Teen Killed, Amy Rodriguez Injured in Runnels County Crash on U.S 83

Runnels County, Texas (May 3, 2022) – A Ballinger teenager was killed Monday evening in a car crash in Runnels County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The deadly crash took place on U.S Highway 83, approximately three miles north of Ballinger.

The DPS said the 16-year-old boy was driving a pickup truck northbound on U.S Highway 83 when he pulled over onto the right shoulder.

The teen then attempted to make a U-turn in front of a mini-van that was approaching the pickup truck from behind. The mini-van struck the pickup truck on its left front side.

The teen driver of the pickup truck was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Ballinger Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the mini-van, Amy M. Rodriguez, 47, of  Winters was transported to Ballinger Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Further details about the crash were not immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
