Bernardo Rivera Killed in Randall County Two-Vehicle Crash on SL 335 near CR 58

Randall County, Texas (October 27, 2023) – One person was killed Thursday evening in a head-on collision in Randall County, according to the Texas DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:35 p.m., October 26, on SL 335 south of East County Road 58, approximately one and a half miles south of Amarillo.

DPS said a 2023 Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was traveling southbound while a 1993 Ford Explorer was traveling northbound. 

The SUV veered into the southbound lane and crashed head-on into the semi-truck.

The semi, which was hauling tires, traveled into the westbound ditch, caught fire, and became fully engulfed. Both the truck tractor and semi-trailer burned to the ground. The driver got out of the truck tractor before it caught fire and was not injured in the crash.

The SUV driver, Bernardo Rivera, 56, of Cicero, Illinois, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The posted speed limit was 75 mph, and road conditions were dry and clear at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
