Catarino Mata Dies in Gregg County Car Accident on FM 3053 and CR 2729
Gregg County, Texas (June 11, 2019) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision that took place on Saturday evening in Gregg County, according to the DPS.
The wreck happened on FM 3053 and CR 2729 at around 6:25 p.m. on June 8.
DPS said Catarino Gallardo Mata, 76, of Overton was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe westbound on CR 2729 when he failed to stop for a stop sign and was struck by a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 traveling north on FM 3053.
Mata sustained major injuries and was transported to UT Health-Tyler, where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the Dodge, Robert John Martin, 50, of Overton and his passengers who are aged between 9 and 14, were taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center-Kilgore.
The DPS is investigating the incident.
