Desdemona, Texas – A woman who was lying in the roadway was fatally hit by a vehicle early Wednesday morning a half mile west of Desdemona, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The deadly accident happened on April 3, on FM 2214 near FM 8.

DPS said Daniel Russell Piper, 39, of Eastland was driving a Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the highway when he struck Catelyn Brooke Jordan, 31, of Stanton, who was lying in the center of the eastbound lane.

Jordan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The posted speed limit on the road was 45 miles per hour, and there were clear and dry conditions.

The DPS is investigating the crash.
