Cheryl Smith Killed, Angela Washington and Gloria Williams Injured in Cherokee County Two-Vehicle Crash on US-175
Cherokee County, Texas (August 10, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, one person was killed, and three others were injured Monday morning in a head-on collision in Cherokee County.
The fatal crash happened around 6:12 a.m., August 9, on US-175, about 2.6 miles east of Cuney.
DPS said a 2007 Dodge Durango was traveling eastbound on the highway while a 2007 Ford Fiesta was traveling westbound.
The Durango crossed over into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into the Ford.
The Durango driver, a 17-year-old Frankston male, was taken to UT-Health East Texas in Jacksonville in stable condition.
The Ford driver, Angela Washington, 43, of Jacksonville, was taken to UT-Health East Texas in Tyler in serious condition.
A passenger in the Ford, Cheryl Smith, 68, of Jacksonville, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another passenger, Gloria Williams, 68, of Jacksonville, was also taken to UT-Health East Texas in Tyler in serious condition.
The troopers are investigating the crash.
