Daniel J. Laird Killed in Plane Crash near Highway 149 in Montgomery County

Daniel J. Laird ID’d as Firefighter Killed in Montgomery County Plane Accident near FM 149 and Bethel Road
Montgomery County, Texas (March 29, 2019) – The firefighter who was killed Wednesday afternoon in a plane crash in Montgomery County has been identified as Daniel J. Laird, 41, according to authorities.
The accident was reported at about 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 in the Sam Houston National Forest, just south of Highway 149
Laird, Kelly Callahen, 41, and Morgan Kozloski, 50, were on board the Eurocopter AS350 when it went down.
Laird, who was a helitack captain from the Tahoe National Forest in California, was helping with a controlled burn when the accident occurred.
Laird died in the wreck. The other firefighter, Callahen, and the pilot, Kozloski, were pulled out of the wreckage by the emergency crews and were rushed to a hospital. The two were said to be in stable condition.
The cause of the wreck is currently under investigation.
