Denice Slaydon Killed in Kirbyville Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 96 near Nichols Creek

Kirbyville, Texas (August 11, 2021) – According to the Texas DPS, the Jasper woman who was injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash, just south of Kirbyville has died.

A family member said on Monday that Denise Slaydon, 33, had succumbed to her injuries.

The crash happened on August 7, on Highway 96, near Nichols Creek, just north of Call Junction.

DPS said Slaydon was driving a 2008 Chrysler van northbound on the highway while a 1996 Dodge pickup truck was traveling southbound.

The van hydroplaned, possibly due to heavy rains, and slid over into the southbound lane, where it struck the pickup truck.

Slaydon was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont in critical condition, where she later died. Two children, ages 4 and 3-years-old, who were riding in the van were taken to Houston area hospitals for treatment.

The occupants of the pickup, Aaron Moore, 43, and Devon Groll, 17, both from Jasper, were taken to Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The troopers are investigating the crash.

Common Causes of Automobile Accidents

While there are many causes of car accidents, the most common reasons of driver negligence include driver inattention; cell phone use; texting and driving; speeding; fatigue; failure to yield the right of way from a stop sign or private drive; running a red light; and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” Attorney Joel A. Gordon said. Mr. Gordon believes that an independent investigation is important. An Attorney will help obtain the crash report, secure accident photos, interview witnesses, and create a claim.
