Deputy, Civilian Injured in T-Bone Crash at Walzem and Gibbs Sprawl in Converse

Deputy and Civilian Injured in Converse Five-Vehicle Crash at Walzem and Gibbs Sprawl

Converse, Texas (April 17, 2022) – Two people, including a Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy, were injured Saturday morning in a five-vehicle crash in Converse, according to the deputies.

The crash occurred on April 16, at the intersection of Walzem and Gibbs Sprawl.

Deputies said the deputy was responding to a burglary of a building with a suspect running from the scene, and he waited at the intersection while a train passed. He then went through the intersection with his overhead lights on and was t-boned by another vehicle. A total of five vehicles were involved in the crash.

The deputy was taken to Northeast Methodist, where he was treated and released.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the deputy was taken to Northeast Baptist with minor injuries.

The traffic safety unit is conducting the investigation.
