Derrell Bobbitt ID’d as Man Killed in Cherokee County Crash on U.S. Highway 69

Cherokee County, Texas (July 14, 2022) – The man who was killed in a two-vehicle collision Tuesday morning near Jacksonville in Cherokee County has been identified by authorities.

Derrell K. Bobbitt, 58, died in the crash that took place on U.S. Highway 69 on Tuesday, July 12.

According to the Texas Department of Safety, Bobbitt, an Alto resident, was driving northbound in the outside lane when he attempted to change lanes.

Bobbitt failed to control his speed and crashed into the back of the trailer being towed by a truck. After the impact, Bobbitt’s vehicle slammed into a cement divider, traveled across both lanes and flipped upside down.

Bobbitt was transported to a hospital in Jacksonville, where he was declared deceased.

Conditions in the area were clear. Bobbitt was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.

An investigation is underway.
