Jhaylen Zaire Garbutt-Gibbs Killed in North Harris County Pedestrian Accident on Kuykendahl Road

Harris County, Texas (July 13, 2020) – A 2-year-old boy was struck and killed by a teen driver Friday afternoon in north Harris County, according to authorities.

The accident happened at about 1:00 p.m. on July 10, in the 13000 block of Kuykendahl Road at a Valero gas station parking lot.

Deputies said a grandfather was walking on the sidewalk with two children.

An inexperienced teenage driver accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake while pulling into the parking space of the gas station and drove up onto the sidewalk where she hit 2-year-old Jhaylen Zaire Garbutt-Gibbs. 

Garbutt-Gibbs was airlifted to Texas Medical Center, where he later died.

The grandfather and the other child sustained minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing.
