Diaja Faye Waites Killed in Haltom City Three-Vehicle Crash on Loop 820

Haltom City, Texas (September 8, 2020) – The woman who was killed Friday morning in a three-vehicle crash in Haltom City has been identified as Diaja Faye Waites, 20, of Fort Worth, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.

The fatal crash was reported around 7:40 a.m., August 4, in the 5100 block of Northeast Loop 820 at Haltom Road.

Police said a brown Nissan Altima had a flat tire and was parked on the side shoulder of the eastbound lanes when it was hit by a Ford F-150.

The Ford driver told police he tried to reach for a water bottle, veered to the left, rode up the inside barrier, and rear-ended the Nissan.

The impact launched the Ford into the air over the Nissan, and it struck a Ford Focus sedan that was parked in front of the Nissan.

Waites, who was sitting in the driver’s seat of the Focus, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A passenger in the Focus and the Nissan driver were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. They were both trying to change the tire when they were hit by the pickup truck.

The pickup driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
