Knox County, Texas (February 2, 2021) – A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning in Knox County, according to the DPS.

The fatal crash happened around 6:25 a.m., February 1, on U.S. Highway 82 at State Highway 6.

DPS said Donnie Edward Ryder, 79, of Benjamin, was stopped in his 2011 Chevrolet Malibu at State Highway 6 when he pulled into the path of a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was traveling westbound on U.S. 82.

The Malibu struck the left side of the tractor-trailer.

Ryder was taken to Knox County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The tractor-trailer driver, Derek T. Williams, 37, of Longview, was uninjured in the crash. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
